About the Platform & Free Learning
What is NewsToEnglish?
NewsToEnglish is an open educational news broadsheet that turns verified real-world journalism into structured English learning lessons. Each lesson is calibrated to a specific CEFR level (from A1 Beginner to C2 Mastery) and includes professional audio narration, vocabulary guides, reading comprehension drills, and grammar exercises.
Is NewsToEnglish completely free to use?
Yes. All news lessons, audio recordings, vocabulary exercises, and comprehension drills are 100% free of charge. There are no paid subscription tiers, hidden fees, or paywalls.
Do I need to create an account or log in to study?
No. Learners never need to create an account, register, or provide personal details. You can read, listen, and complete exercises immediately in any modern web browser. Your exercise progress and cookie settings are stored locally on your device.
How do the CEFR levels work on NewsToEnglish?
We calibrate every story to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2). Each news story is published once, as one lesson at the single CEFR level that naturally matches its linguistic structure. You can browse stories specifically matched to your current proficiency level.
Editorial Standards & Fact Verification
Where do you source your news stories?
Our editorial desk monitors trusted international wire services (such as Reuters and the Associated Press), scientific research releases, and official governmental publications. We maintain a public Source Registry detailing all monitored feeds and their usage terms.
How are facts verified before publication?
We enforce a strict mandatory corroboration standard: key claims, dates, names, and statistics must be confirmed across at least two independent, reputable wire agencies or institutional records before educational adaptation.
Does simplifying language for beginner levels change the facts?
Never. While vocabulary and sentence structures are simplified for A1 and A2 learners, dates, figures, quotes, and scientific accuracy are strictly preserved. Factual integrity is never sacrificed for readability.
How do you handle corrections if a news event develops?
If an underlying news story changes or a factual error is spotted, our editorial team immediately updates the lesson brief and appends a transparent correction notice.
Artificial Intelligence & Technology Ethics
How does NewsToEnglish use Artificial Intelligence?
AI systems operate exclusively in background content production pipelines for assisted initial drafting, CEFR linguistic grading, and studio audio generation. AI is never invoked dynamically during a learner's interactive study session, and all lessons undergo human editorial review before publication.
Is AI used to grade or evaluate my answers in exercises?
No. All exercise checking, multiple-choice scoring, fill-in-the-blank evaluations, and summary comparisons run 100% deterministically in your browser. Your written exercises and answers are never transmitted to external AI providers.
How do you prevent AI hallucinations in news reporting?
Our content pipelines enforce grounded prompting: AI models are strictly constrained to a verified Factual Brief containing corroborated entities, dates, and facts. Automated validators and human editors reject any ungrounded assertions.
Audio & Pronunciation Practice
What audio accents are available?
We provide studio-quality neural audio narration in both British (UK) and American (US) accents for our news lessons, allowing learners to hear natural pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation.
Can I adjust the audio playback speed?
Yes. Our audio player includes speed controls (0.75x, 1x, 1.25x) and synchronized text highlighting, making it easy to follow along at whatever pace suits your listening practice.
Privacy, Data & Cookies
What personal information do you collect from learners?
NewsToEnglish is anonymous by default. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or credit card details from learners. We do not maintain learner account profiles.
What cookies and local browser storage do you use?
We use local browser storage only for essential operational keys (such as remembering your cookie consent choice). Non-essential Google Analytics 4 and Google AdSense cookies are strictly optional and only load if you grant explicit consent.
How can I change my cookie choices or opt out?
You can update or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking 'Privacy choices' in the footer or visiting our Cookie Policy page.
Advertising & Funding
Why does NewsToEnglish show advertisements?
Non-intrusive display advertisements served via Google AdSense finance our editorial research, neural audio production, hosting, and platform development. This ad-supported model ensures high-quality English education remains accessible to all learners worldwide without paywalls.
What happens if I decline advertising cookies?
If you decline advertising cookies in our consent banner, third-party advertising cookies are blocked. You will see our own internal educational course promotions instead of personalized third-party ads.
